How York actually handles things
From the OUAC’s Guidance Dialogues Resource Guide (Spring 2026), which OUAC publishes for guidance counsellors rather than students. Read the original. Policies change — confirm anything you’re about to act on.
- If you repeat a course
We will accept the highest grade.
- Summer school, night school, e-learning and private school
We accept all Ministry-inspected and -approved courses. • Prior to registering for courses at a private school, students should ensure it is approved by the Ministry of Education.
- Your Grade 11 marks
We use Grade 11 grades for early consideration for many programs. • All offers based on Grade 11 grades are conditional on Grade 12 final grades, including prerequisites and completion of the OSSD. Supplemental Application
Most programs consider grades only, with the following exceptions: o BFA programs require an evaluation or audition. o Digital Technologies requires a supplementary application and interview with an employer. o The Schulich School of Business requires a supplementary application. o The Glendon bilingual International Studies & Business Administration Dual Degree program requires a supplementary application. o The Concurrent Education programs at Keele and Glendon campuses require a Supplementary Information Form. Ranking on OUAC Application
Program choice ranking does not factor into admission decisions. • We encourage students to rank their choices honestly. Tuition Deposit
$300 deposit due on the 15th of the following month after enrolling in courses. Deadlines: https://sfs.yorku.ca/fees/deposit.
$2,000 non-refundable deposit due for international tuition-paying students prior to enrollment and to receive a Provincial Attestation Letter.
The deposit is part of the tuition cost and not an additional fee. First-year Course Selection Process
- Automatic entrance scholarships
Renewable Automatic Entrance Scholarship amounts are based on final admission average and range in value from $1,000 to $3,500 per year.
Automatic Entrance Scholarships are now renewable at all tiers to recipients who maintain the minimum required grade point average (GPA).
Notes: o If a student's GPA drops below the renewability threshold, they can now regain their Automatic Entrance Scholarship for the following academic year once they bring their GPA back up to the minimum required. o A student's total award value over 4 years will vary between $4,000 and $14,000. o All students entering with a final admission average of 80% or higher will be eligible to receive a $1,500 Study Abroad Award (packaged with the Automatic Entrance Scholarship) if they participate in a formal exchange experience.
- Scholarship deadlines
Deadlines may vary by funding or award type: https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/funding.
Most scholarships have an application deadline of February 15 or April 1, 2026, for document submission.
- Bursaries
York bursaries are worth up to $2,000 and help cover costs such as books and supplies.
Students must complete the Scholarships, Awards & Bursaries Application. | http://futurestudents.yorku.ca/funding
- Special consideration
Students can complete an additional information form to tell us about any extenuating circumstances, health condition or diagnosed disability that may have affected their academic performance. | https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/requirements/ extenuating-circumstances
- Deferring your offer
Most programs will consider a deferral request for up to 1 year. • Students must accept their offer of admission and complete our deferral form. • Deferrals are not offered for the Bachelor of Business Administration, Nursing, Design or Social Work programs.
- AP and IB
AP: Students with completed AP courses with grades of 4 or 5 may receive up to 30 credits of transfer credit.
IB: Students with completed IB Higher Level courses with grades of 5 or better may receive up to 30 credits of transfer credit, depending on the program. https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/advanced-secondary-cegep
- Changing programs
Co-op is now available in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and BA Digital Media. Co-op is optional and begins in a student's second year of study. There is no need to apply to a co-op stream in the OUAC application.
Theatre-Performance Creation is now a direct-entry program that students can apply to in their OUAC application.
