Studying Kinesiology in Ontario

You can’t always apply to kinesiology directly. Some universities admit you straight into it; others admit you into a broad first-year category and you choose kinesiology later. That difference is why searching for a major by name can make it look like a university doesn’t offer it.

Apply broad, choose kinesiology later

  • University of Toronto — Mississauga

Apply to not offered at UTM

No kinesiology or human kinetics program at UTM. U of T's Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education is a St. George application. Comparative Physiology under Life Sciences (TML) is the nearest UTM equivalent in content, not in name.

Apply straight to kinesiology

  • Kinesiology (EP)

    Western

Western says it outright: 'Though Kinesiology is technically in the Faculty of Health Sciences, it is a direct-entry program.' Kinesiology is EP and Health Sciences is EW, so wanting both means two separate OUAC choices. Requires ENG4U and SBI4U; a Grade 12 U math and Grade 11/12 physics are recommended for senior subjects. You choose BA vs BSc and your module later, but SCH4U is a prerequisite for the first-year chemistry the BSc needs.

  • Kinesiology (QK)

    Queen's

Direct-entry BSc; verified requirements are English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U and Biology 4U. Health Studies, taught by the same school (SKHS), is the opposite — a BA plan you request on SOLUS during May Plan Selection after entering through Arts (QA), with HLTH 101 expected in first year. Students apply to the wrong one constantly. Transferring into Kinesiology from Arts and Science after first year is possible but brutal: it needs roughly a 3.5 cumulative GPA and only two to five students are normally accepted per year, so apply to QK directly if you want it.

  • Honours Kinesiology

    McMaster

One of the few Faculty of Science programs you apply to by name from Grade 12 rather than through a Gateway, and it is not on McMaster's supplementary application list — grades and prerequisites only. Do not confuse it with Honours Health Sciences: different program, different competition.

  • Kinesiology and Physical Education

    U of T (St. George)

Its own faculty, its own OUAC code, its own supplemental application — this is a BKin, not an Arts & Science degree, so it is a separate direct-entry choice on your OUAC form. You need one 4U math (MCV4U or MHF4U) and one 4U science (SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U); PSK4U is recommended, not required.

  • Kinesiology

    Waterloo

Direct entry, Faculty of Health. The prerequisite everyone gets wrong: Physics is NOT specifically required — you need any 4U English, Advanced Functions OR Calculus and Vectors (not both), and any TWO of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, all at 70%. Admission average low 80s regular, mid-80s co-op.

Read off each university’s own admissions pages, and covering the seven campuses Ontario students apply to most. Entry structures change — confirm with the university before you build a timetable around one. Search all programs.
