Studying Mathematics in Ontario
You can’t always apply to mathematics directly. Some universities admit you straight into it; others admit you into a broad first-year category and you choose mathematics later. That difference is why searching for a major by name can make it look like a university doesn’t offer it.
Apply broad, choose mathematics later
Western University
Apply to Science (ES)
You choose mathematics at the end of first year, during Intent to Register in March.
Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Mathematical and Statistical Sciences are Science modules. Western's example on its OUAC-codes page: Math and Physics share code ES, so you add Science only once — 'Don't apply to the same code more than once.'

Apply to Science – Mathematics and Data Sciences (QSM)
You choose mathematics during Plan Selection in May at the end of first year.
QSM has the lightest science prerequisites of any Queen's science route: English 4U and Calculus and Vectors 4U plus four other 4U/M courses — NO Biology, Chemistry or Physics 4U required. That is a real advantage if you dropped the sciences. Mathematics and Engineering is a separate Smith Engineering discipline entered through QE — same word, different faculty and application. CODE CAVEAT: OUInfo names this "Mathematics and Data Sciences" while Queen's Journal reported it as "Mathematics and Statistics"; confirm the exact name/code on OUAC.

Apply to Mathematics and Statistics Gateway
You choose mathematics at the end of first year.
You apply to the Gateway, not to 'Math'. There is no standalone Honours Mathematics — the closest is Honours Mathematics and Statistics – Mathematics Specialization. Other Level 2 options are Mathematics and Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics, Biology and Mathematics, and Actuarial & Financial Mathematics. Actuarial & Financial Math additionally needs an above-Level-I supplementary application submitted during first year.

Apply to Mathematical & Physical Sciences
You choose mathematics at the end of first year.
Calendar confirms the Mathematics Major and even the Mathematics Specialist are open enrolment at 4.0 credits. MCV4U is the only Grade 12 subject required beyond English.

Apply to Mathematical & Computational Sciences
You choose mathematics after first year (4.0 credits).
The math degree is called Mathematical Sciences. Requires ENG4U, MCV4U, MHF4U. Warning: this category is NOT a back door into Computer Science — for students admitted Fall 2026-27 and later, BOTH the CS Specialist and the CS Major are open only to students admitted under the Computer Science category (TMX/CMP1).

Apply to Mathematics
You choose mathematics at the end of first year.
One Mathematics code covers 16 majors: Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Applied Mathematics with Scientific Computing and Scientific Machine Learning, Biostatistics, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computational Mathematics, Data Science, Information Technology Management, Mathematical Economics, Mathematical Finance, Mathematical Optimization, Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Studies, Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics/Teaching. "Apply to Mathematics and choose a major at the end of first year." Requirements are Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, any 4U English and one other 4U course, individual selection from the mid-80s. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing and Financial Management, Math/CPA, Math/Financial Analysis and Risk Management, Math/Business Administration and the Laurier double degrees are all separate applications, not majors you can declare from inside this code. Data Science is the odd one out: you can apply to it directly (mid-80s) or reach it as a Mathematics major later.

Apply straight to mathematics
U of T (Scarborough)
Direct from high school only — any post-secondary study makes you ineligible. Advanced Functions and Calculus & Vectors required, high 80s. The Math POSt itself is limited-enrolment and still has to be requested on ACORN after first year. Statistics is a separate OUAC application (TXU), not part of TXS.
Read off each university’s own admissions pages, and covering the seven campuses Ontario students apply to most. Entry structures change — confirm with the university before you build a timetable around one. Search all programs.
