Studying Nursing in Ontario

You can’t always apply to nursing directly. Some universities admit you straight into it; others admit you into a broad first-year category and you choose nursing later. That difference is why searching for a major by name can make it look like a university doesn’t offer it.

Apply broad, choose nursing later

  • University of Toronto — St. George

Apply to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (second-entry, Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing)

You choose nursing you apply during the second year of another university degree.

You cannot apply to U of T nursing from Grade 12 — there is no OUAC code for a high school applicant and no nursing program page in U of T's undergraduate finder. The BScN is second-entry: at least two years of university equal to 10.0 U of T credits, minimum 4.0 of them above first-year level, and a B average (about 75%) in your most recent 5.0 credits.

  • University of Toronto — Mississauga

Apply to not offered at UTM

UTM has no nursing program — confirmed absent from the full A-Z listing. U of T nursing (Bloomberg) is at St. George and is second-entry only, requiring prior university study, so no Ontario Grade 12 student can apply to U of T nursing directly.

Apply straight to nursing

  • Nursing - Direct Entry BScN (ENW)

    Western

ENW is the 3.5-year Direct Entry BScN and the only code for Grade 12 applicants. The other nursing codes on the OUAC list — ENS, ENA and ENB — are Compressed Time Frame streams for people who already have two years of university credit or are Registered Practical Nurses; do not pick those from high school. ENW requires a minimum 70% in each of ENG4U, SBI4U and SCH4U, plus 70% in one math (Grade 11 MCF3M or MCR3U is acceptable, otherwise a 4U math).

  • Nursing (QN)

    Queen's

Verified verbatim: "English 4U with a minimum grade of 75%, Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U, plus any 4U Mathematics course." Note it is ANY 4U math, not Calculus. Nursing is its own school — you cannot transfer in later from Health Sciences or Life Sciences, so it must be on your OUAC application now. A Supplementary Application is required for the four-year BNSc (due Feb 15); applicants to the AST Nursing program are exempt.

  • Nursing I (McMaster University Site)

    McMaster

Genuine direct entry, and a supplementary application is required — for Nursing that means CASPer, which you book a testing date for yourself. The catch students miss: the McMaster site and the Mohawk College site are separate OUAC choices with separate competition. You can apply to both, both graduate you with a McMaster BScN, and there is no transferring between sites once you start.

Read off each university’s own admissions pages, and covering the seven campuses Ontario students apply to most. Entry structures change — confirm with the university before you build a timetable around one. Search all programs.
