Studying Sociology in Ontario
You can’t always apply to sociology directly. Some universities admit you straight into it; others admit you into a broad first-year category and you choose sociology later. That difference is why searching for a major by name can make it look like a university doesn’t offer it.
Apply broad, choose sociology later

Apply to Social Science (EO)
You choose sociology at the end of first year, during Intent to Register in March.
Apply to Social Science (EO). To enter any Sociology module you must first complete 1.0 credit of 1000-level Sociology (Sociology 1020 or 1021E, or two of 1025A/B, 1026F/G, 1027A/B) with no mark below 60%, then request the module at Intent to Register in March. The Honours Specialization additionally needs a 70% average in 3.0 principal courses and is limited enrolment.

Apply to Arts (QA)
You choose sociology during Plan Selection in May at the end of first year.
Verified verbatim for Arts (QA): "English 4U. Additional five required courses may be either 4U or 4M." Only English 4U is a hard prerequisite. Sociology is requested in May of first year and, like all Arts and Science plans, carries a minimum grade/GPA threshold — it is not automatic.

Apply to Honours Arts
You choose sociology at the end of first year.
