What it isMechatronics engineering combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and software engineering to design and build machines and systems that integrate all three disciplines — think robots, automated manufacturing equipment, or smart devices. Unlike a traditional mechanical or electrical engineering program, mechatronics focuses specifically on how these fields work together rather than treating them separately. The program includes mandatory co-op work terms, and you can pursue it as a straight engineering degree or combined with management or social studies, depending on your interests.In your first semester, you take core engineering courses in math, physics, and design while exploring different engineering specializations — aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing.
