What it isFinancial Mathematics and Economics is a mathematics-based degree that combines the study of economic systems and financial markets with advanced math and statistics. Unlike a pure economics or pure mathematics program, it trains you to use mathematical models and analysis to solve real-world problems in finance and economics. It suits students who want rigorous quantitative training and are interested in how money, markets, and economies actually work. You study science subjects like biology, chemistry, or physics alongside accounting and finance courses, learning how to apply scientific knowledge to financial decision-making and business problems. Unlike a straight science degree, you're required to complete paid work terms with employers throughout your studies, alternating between school and jobs. This suits people who want a science background but are drawn to business applications and need real-world work experience before graduating. You study the fundamentals of running a business: accounting, finance, human resources, and strategy, along with emerging areas like artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship. This co-op program alternates classroom learning with paid work terms at real companies, giving you practical experience alongside your degree. It suits people who want hands-on business skills and prefer learning by doing rather than pure theory. You study science and business together in one program, combining technical subjects like chemistry or biology with courses in marketing, entrepreneurship, and business strategy. Unlike a regular science degree with a business minor added on, this program integrates both throughout, so you learn how science discoveries become commercial products. The co-op option lets you alternate school terms with paid work placements. This suits students who want a science background but also care about bringing ideas to market or running a company.
