What it isGeography at Wilfrid Laurier is the study of both human societies and natural systems — how people organize themselves across space, and how climate, landforms, and ecosystems shape the world. The program lets you choose between emphasizing human geography (cities, cultures, economics, politics) or physical geography (weather, geology, water), or blend both. A co-op option lets you gain work experience in fields like urban planning, environmental consulting, or government during your degree, which suits students who want to test career paths while studying. You study how the natural world works alongside the human systems that affect it. The BES focuses on environmental policy, conservation, and sustainability through social and geographic lenses, while the BSc emphasizes the physical science side: geology, ecology, and environmental processes. Both paths suit people interested in solving real environmental problems through either policy and community work or scientific research and analysis. You study how Earth's climate and environment work, using chemistry, physics, and geography to understand weather systems, ecosystems, and human impacts. This program combines natural science with social geography, so you examine both the physical causes of environmental change and how people and communities respond to it. It suits students curious about climate science who want hands-on experience through co-op placements alongside their coursework.
