What it isYou study how to teach French or English to people who speak a different language at home. This program combines education theory with deep study of the language itself, so you learn both teaching methods and the grammar and culture behind the language you'll teach. It suits people who want to work in schools or community programs helping students learn a second language. You study French language, literature, and culture in depth, learning how to read, write, and think critically about French-speaking texts and ideas. The iBA option means you spend a year abroad in a French-speaking country, giving you immersion in the language and culture alongside your coursework. This program suits students who love French and want genuine fluency and cultural knowledge, whether or not they're already a strong French speaker at entry.Arts One is a broad first-year program that lets you explore multiple humanities and social science subjects — including anthropology, history, English, economics, and geography — before deciding on a major. Unlike applying directly to a single program, this approach gives you time to sample different disciplines and find the right fit before committing. It suits students who are curious about ideas and society but aren't yet certain which direction they want to specialize in.
