What it isIn this program, you study an Arts subject — such as English, Economics, Drama, or Environmental Studies — while simultaneously earning your teaching qualification. Unlike a regular BA where you add teacher training after, you complete both degrees together over four years, so you graduate ready to teach your subject in Ontario schools. It suits students who know they want to teach a specific subject and want to combine their subject expertise with education training from the start. This program trains you to teach junior and intermediate students (roughly grades 4 to 10) by combining a university degree in arts subjects with teacher education coursework. You study one or two arts subjects like English, history, or psychology while also taking education courses that teach you how to plan lessons, manage a classroom, and assess student learning. It suits people who want to teach a specific subject and earn a teaching credential in four years rather than doing a separate degree first.Arts and Humanities programs at Western let you study literature, history, languages, creative work, and visual art — subjects focused on human culture and expression rather than science or business. You can pursue a general BA, combine business with arts, earn a specialized BFA in fine art, or complete a shorter certificate or diploma. The co-op option lets you alternate study terms with paid work placements related to your field. This suits people drawn to writing, analysis, visual creativity, or understanding how societies and cultures work.A BA Honours at Guelph lets you specialize in one of nine humanities and social science subjects — from English to Economics to Fine Art — while completing a standard four-year degree. The co-op option integrates paid work terms into your studies, letting you gain professional experience in your field alongside classroom learning. This suits students who want depth in a particular subject and prefer learning through both study and real-world application.
