What it isPublic Health is the study of how to prevent disease and improve health across whole communities and populations, not just individual patients. This program includes a work-study option where you alternate between semesters of classroom learning and paid work terms at hospitals, government health agencies, or non-profits, giving you real experience in the field. It suits people interested in disease prevention, health policy, and community wellness who want both classroom knowledge and practical workplace experience before graduating. This program teaches you to perform and interpret diagnostic tests on blood, tissue, and other body samples in hospitals and labs. It focuses on the hands-on skills and scientific knowledge that lab technicians use to help doctors diagnose disease. The Northern Access Initiative means the program is designed for students from remote or underserved regions of Ontario, with support to help you succeed in a full-time, lab-based career.
