What it isThis program teaches you how to design, build, and improve machines and mechanical systems, from engines to robots to manufacturing equipment. Unlike a standard mechanical engineering degree, co-op is mandatory here: you alternate between classroom terms and paid work terms at engineering companies, giving you real workplace experience before you graduate. It suits students who want hands-on learning alongside theory and who are ready to commit to the co-op schedule.Materials Engineering teaches you how to understand, design, and improve the materials that make up everything from car parts to phone screens. You'll study the science of metals, ceramics, and plastics, and learn how to manufacture them at scale. Unlike general engineering, it focuses specifically on what materials are made of and how to use that knowledge to solve real problems in industry.
