What it is	Linguistics is the study of how language works — its structure, sounds, grammar, and how people use it to communicate. This program lets you focus specifically on language science rather than learning to speak a particular language fluently. You can also choose a co-op option to gain work experience in fields like translation, education, or language technology alongside your studies, which suits students who want practical experience before graduation.	You study one modern language in depth — French, Spanish and Latin American culture, or Italian — alongside English literature and related humanities. Each stream lets you focus on the language itself, its literature, and the history and culture of regions where it's spoken. This suits you if you want genuine fluency in a second language combined with understanding of its cultural context, rather than a broad survey of multiple languages.	A degree in linguistics, language and society teaches you how languages work, how people use them, and what role language plays in culture and society. You'll study subjects like how languages change over time, how brains process speech, and how language connects to history, law, and Indigenous cultures. The iBA version requires you to spend a year studying abroad in a French-speaking environment, giving you immersion in language learning alongside your coursework. This program suits people curious about communication, cultural diversity, and how language shapes human experience.
