What to watch for
Important: McMaster does NOT have a stand-alone "Criminology" Honours major or its own OUAC code. The Faculty of Social Sciences' departments are things like Sociology, Political Science, Psychology Neuroscience & Behaviour, Social Work, Anthropology, etc. — there is no Criminology department listed among them. What actually exists is a Mohawk College partnership: Social Sciences students can add a Mohawk-taught Criminology certificate on top of a regular Honours degree (most often Honours Sociology) "without adding extra time or tuition," using elective credits — this is a certificate bolted onto a major, not a major itself. So a student wanting "criminology" at McMaster applies to Social Sciences I (OUAC code ML) from Grade 12, spends first year exploring, then in spring of Level I declares an Honours major (typically Sociology) and separately opts into the Mohawk Criminology certificate track. Double-check with McMaster admissions/advising before applying if the certificate route isn't what the student had in mind, since it's quite different from a dedicated Criminology degree offered at some other Ontario schools (e.g. Toronto, Ottawa).
