What it isApplied Biotechnology is the study of using living organisms and their processes to solve problems in agriculture, medicine, and industry. You'll take courses in chemistry, biology, and genetics while learning to apply this knowledge in real laboratories and workplaces. The BSc and Management version adds business skills alongside the science, and co-op placements are built into both programs so you earn experience with employers while studying.You study how living cells work at the molecular level and how to use that knowledge to develop new medicines, materials, and industrial processes. This program combines pure chemistry with applied biotechnology, so you spend time both in theory and on practical applications that companies actually use. It includes a required co-op work term, giving you real workplace experience alongside your coursework. This suits students who want hands-on lab work and are curious about bridging basic science with real-world problem-solving.Science One is a general first-year science program that lets you explore multiple science disciplines — biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, and others — before committing to a specific major.
