Prerequisites

  • English, ENG4U
  • Calculus and Vectors, MCV4U
  • Biology, SBI4U
  • Chemistry, SCH4U
  • Note:
  • Although Western offers first-year Physics courses that do not require high school Physics as a prerequisite, it is strongly recommended that students complete SPH4U.

What to watch for

You apply straight to Medical Sciences (ESM) from Grade 12, but understand what you are buying: ESM covers Years 1-2 only, and the Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree is a second-entry program you join in Year 3. ESM's advantage over Science (ES) is assured Year-3 BMSc entry if you finish Year-2 core courses with at least an 80% average and no mark below 60%; from ES you take the same courses but compete for Year-3 seats. Requires ENG4U, MCV4U, SBI4U and SCH4U; SPH4U recommended. Applying to both ES and ESM does not hurt your Medical Sciences chances — Western assesses each choice independently.
