Can you change programs after you apply?

Usually yes, and usually later than students assume — but the deadline is set by the university rather than by OUAC, and adding a choice is treated differently from swapping one.

Every answer below is what the university tells Ontario guidance counsellors, quoted from the OUAC guide for September 2026 entry. It isn’t published on their student pages. Rules like this change rarely; dates don’t — check any date here with the university. Where this comes from.

Bachelor of Computer Science has 2 new specializations: o Data Science and Artificial Intelligence o Immersive Technologies

The BA in Applied Linguistics and BA with majors in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences have been renamed the BA in Pre-Professional Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.

The Interactive Arts and Science program has been renamed Interactive Arts and Digital Media.

The Studies in Arts and Culture program has been renamed Arts Leadership.

The Oenology and Viticulture program has been renamed Applied Grape and Wine Science.

New Bachelor of Commerce streams in International Business, International Management, Information Systems and Marketing.

New Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies optional concentrations in Government and Professional Communication; Media and Entertainment Industries; and Public Engagement and Civic Culture.

New Bachelor of Computer Science stream in User Experience and User Interfaces.

New Bachelor of Engineering in Software Engineering stream in Artificial Intelligence.

Bachelor of Science in Linguistics concentrations in Computer Science, Neuroscience and Psychology.

The Bachelor of Social Work in Indigenous Social Work requires a statement of intent and program acceptance form.

The Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration and the BBA/BAA now require one 4U/M math, reduced from two 4U/M maths.

res offers an accelerated 3-year option. Requires 80% over the first 2 years of the program.

Music 1 is still not offered for fall 2026.

Business 1 and Integrated Business and Humanities will now offer co-op. Students will have access to 4-, 8- and 12-month paid co-op work terms. Students apply to co-op after their first year and must complete a minimum of 12 months (maximum of 16 months) of work experience.

Midwifery: The minimum average required is now 85%. Students must obtain at least an 85% in the 3 required courses (Biology, Chemistry, English). Casper is no longer required. The Identity and Admissions Survey is still required.

Social Sciences: Co-op is now available for Anthropology, Environment & Society (Aging & Society and Health & Society) and Sociology (in addition to Economics, Political Science, and Work and Labour Studies).

Engineering & iBioMed: Applicants applying for fall 2027 will have the option to apply directly to a discipline or choose after Level I.

Redesigned Sociology Program - Beginning in the fall of 2026, Nipissing is launching a newly redesigned Sociology program that integrates the strengths of Anthropology, Gender Equality & Social Justice, and Religions & Cultures into one interdisciplinary degree structured around 5 flexible curriculum concentrations offering students more options and a clearer pathway to their goals. Concentrations include: o Health, Death and Wellness o Education and Society o Social Analysis and Public Policy o Environment and Social Justice o Media, Communications and Culture

Flow: Curricular Transformation is an initiative to renew our curriculum. It has created a more open, inclusive, interdisciplinary and learner-directed educational experience for our students. All undergraduate programs have been renewed.

Program Prerequisite updates for 2025/2026: o Sciences (QS): ENG4U; MCV4U; 2 of SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U; and 2 additional 4U or 4M courses. o Life Sciences (QL): ENG4U, MCV4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and 2 additional 4U or 4M courses. o Kinesiology (QK) & Concurrent Education/Kinesiology (QKF): ENG4U, MCV4U, SBI4U and 3 additional 4U or 4M courses. o Health Sciences (QH): ENG4U (minimum grade of 80%); SBI4U; SCH4U; MHF4U or MCV4U; and 2 additional 4U or 4M courses.

The George Brown Collaborative Nursing program is no longer available (Centennial and TMU Collaborative nursing programs continue).

International Development Studies has been renamed Global Development Studies.

Bachelor of Engineering: Admission is only offered to the co-op program. Admitted students may request to transfer to the regular stream after starting the program.

BA: Art History major has been reinstated.

BA: Mathematical Economics major (co-op and regular) has been renamed Quantitative Economics and Finance.

Bachelor of Science (BSc): Microbiology major (co-op and regular) has been renamed Microbiology and Immunology.

BSc: Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences major (co-op and regular) has been renamed Human Health and Nutritional Sciences.

Bachelor of Applied Science: Admission requirements for Child Studies and Family Studies & Human Development have changed to ENG4U, one 4U math and 4 additional 4U/M courses.

Update to Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Justice Studies: o Justice Studies students have the option to complete an additional 420 hours of work-integrated learning in addition to the required 200 hours of workplace experience. o Students who complete the optional component will graduate with a total of 620 hours of work-integrated learning.

New co-op for Honours Bachelor of Business Administration: o Students can apply for co-op once they are in the program and must have a minimum 70% academic average. o Co-op begins in their second year (third year for accounting students). o Students not in co-op will have the opportunity to complete up to 520 hours of work placement through our regular Business Administration stream. o Refer to our website for details.

Multidisciplinary Design - Experiential Learning (4 years). The 3-year version is still available after first year as a program change option.

Co-op is now available in Food Sciences.

Nursing will now only be offered on the main Ottawa campus. As of fall 2026, we will no longer offer the Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing in collaboration with Algonquin College.

The Visual Arts major (Bachelor of Arts) is no longer available through the OUAC application. It can only be added after the first year. The Visual Arts specialization (Bachelor of Fine Arts) is still available for admission.

Environment: Geomatics name changed to Geospatial Data Science

Arts: Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies name changed to Sexualities, Relationships, and Families. Religious Studies name changed to Religion, Culture, and Spirituality.

Math: Applied Mathematics with Scientific Computing name changed to Applied Mathematics with Scientific Computing and Scientific Machine Learning.

Environment: The Knowledge Integration undergraduate program is pausing admissions for 2026.

Students can no longer co-register with Renison University College and the main Waterloo campus.

Aeronautics and Leadership name changed to Commercial Aviation Leadership.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting: Paused

Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biochemistry (Pharmacy Stream) all have new co-op program options.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences has several new co-op program options.

The Western-Fanshawe Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program (OUAC codes ENW and ENF) is now closed. From fall 2025 onwards, students can apply for the 3.5-year Direct Entry BScN Program at Western (OUAC code ENW).

Co-op is now available in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and BA Digital Media. Co-op is optional and begins in a student's second year of study. There is no need to apply to a co-op stream in the OUAC application.

Theatre-Performance Creation is now a direct-entry program that students can apply to in their OUAC application.

First Year Exploration offered at Glendon Campus.

Suspended programs (for new admission only) at Keele Campus: Biomedical Physics, Classics and Classical Studies, East Asian Studies, Environmental Biology, Germanic Studies, Hellenic Studies, Italian Studies, Jewish Studies, Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, Spanish, Religious Studies.

Suspended programs (for new admission only) at Glendon Campus: English, Global History and Justice, Sociology, Spanish and Latin American Cultures and Societies.

Note: While these degree programs are suspended, in-demand courses covering their subject matter will still be offered.

Reintroduced programs at Keele Campus: Gender and Women's Studies, and Indigenous Studies, have been re-instated for fall 2026.
