How do Ontario universities treat AP and IB?
Two separate questions get conflated here: whether AP or IB helps you get in, and whether it earns you credit once you are there. The second is where universities actually differ, and the required scores are specific.
Every answer below is what the university tells Ontario guidance counsellors, quoted from the OUAC guide for September 2026 entry. It isn’t published on their student pages. Rules like this change rarely; dates don’t — check any date here with the university. Where this comes from.
What each of the 23 universities says
AP: Students who completed AP courses in appropriate subjects with a grade of 4 may receive transfer credit. Students must also meet the standard university requirement of six 4U/M courses.
IB: Students who completed IB courses in a Canadian high school may receive transfer credit. To receive transfer credit for a specific course, a student must receive a score of 5 or higher in a Standard Level or Higher Level course and must have achieved a minimum of 28 points in the IB diploma. Students must also meet the standard university requirement of six 4U/M courses.
We may use AP results to determine admissibility and the granting of transfer credit or exemption. Applicants who present AP examination grades of 4 may receive university credit to a maximum of 2.0 Brock credits. We require an official AP transcript for those who wish to be considered for transfer credit.
Qualified students who have completed the IB diploma may receive up to 3.0 Brock credits for Higher Level subjects completed with a grade of 5 or higher.
