When you choose marketing
After first year. UTM's own program-plan PDF says: "During the application process, applicants will select the Commerce admissions category, but will not officially be admitted to a formal program of study (Specialist, Major, and/or Minor) until after first year.".
What to watch for
Marketing at UTM is the "Commerce Specialist program in Marketing," part of the Department of Management's BCom. There is no separate OUAC code for Marketing — you apply under the Commerce & Management (TMG) category with everyone else wanting a BCom, then choose the Marketing Specialist (or another Commerce specialist/major) once you're in the program after first year. Watch the prerequisites: UTM's Commerce program plan specifies Advanced Functions AND Calculus as required Grade 12 courses, with an approximate mid-80s admission average — don't skip Calculus thinking Advanced Functions alone is enough.
The same application also gets you to
Commerce & Management is the entry point for 2 other majors at U of T (Mississauga). You are not choosing between these at application time.
